AKARI Instruments

ASTRO-F

AKARI telescope adopts the Ritchey-Chretien system with F/6.1. The focal length is 4200 mm, and the effective aperture is 68.5 cm. The entire telescope system is maintained at about 6 K. More Details

There are two focal plane instruments, FIS (Far-Infrared Surveyor) and IRC (Infrared Camera). FIS consists of two photo-conductor sensors, and covers four far-infrared wavelength bands between 50 microns to 180 microns. Each of the two sensors covers the shorter (50-80 microns and 60-110 microns) and the longer (110-180 microns and 140-180 microns) wavelength bands, respectively. The IRC is composed of three independent cameras, each of which covers 1.7-5.5 microns, 5.8 - 14.1 microns and 12.4-26.5 microns. More Details

AKARI observation has two attitude control modes; the survey mode and the pointing mode. In the pointing mode, a strip of the sky at 89-91 deg from the Sun is scanned with approximately 100 minutes. Thus, in principle, all sky is covered in a half year. Pointing mode is used when longer exposure is dedicated for particular targets. More Details
