Geotail

Welcome to DARTS/Geotail

We are happy to provide you with the magnetic field, the electric field, and plasma moment data obtained by the magnetic field experiment (MGF), the electric field detector (EFD), and the low energy particle experiment (LEP), respectively, onboard the Geotail satellite. We hope our database will be very useful for your research on magnetospheric physics and space plasma physics. Please enjoy!

Announcement of an ASCII format change

Thank you very much for using DARTS.

The year description in all data in the ASCII format has been changed since Sep. 1, 2013. Now, 4 digit numbers are used to express "years." (e.g. 92 -> 1992) Please see DATA FORMAT descriptions.

We are very sorry for your inconvinience.

Rules of the Road

  • Before you access the database, you should carefully read the caveats about the data.
  • Data are mostly reliable. But, if you have any questions or any difficulties about the data, please contact the principal investigators.
  • When you publish a paper, you should send a reprint to the corresponding principal investigators and/or the Geotail Project Office at Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA in Japan.
  • In any publications, the use of the Geotail data should be acknowledged, for example, as "Geotail magnetic field (electric field and/or plasma) data were provided by T. Nagai (H. Hayakawa and/or Y. Saito) through DARTS at Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA in Japan."
