A Powerful Tool for Browsing Quick-Look Data in Solar-Terrestrial Physics: "Conjunction Event Finder"

A "Conjunction Event Finder (CEF)" is a web tool for efficiently browsing various kinds of quick-look (QL) data in solar-terrestrial physics (STP).

In STP research, it is essential to examine data of the sun, the solar wind, the magnetosphere, the ionosphere, and the ground obtained by satellites and ground-based instruments. As a first step, scientists often browse QL plots of these data on the web to investigate or search events of interest. But, there are several tens of kinds of QL plots, which are scattered at different institutes and universities all over the world. Scientists, therefore, have to open a new window and input a date and time for each plot. This procedure is very troublesome if many plots are needed to check in studies with multi-satellite and ground-based observations.

In order to mitigate this inconvenience, we have developed the CEF as a solution. Once opening the CEF and inputting a period of interest, links to various QL plots for the period will be generated to browse them efficiently. Although the CEF is simple and does not necessarily use up-to-date techniques, it is a very powerful tool.

In addition, we have made QL plots of Geotail, Cluster, and Double Star (TC1 and TC2) data as well as plots of satellite footprints and ground-based instruments and published them in DARTS. They are also useful for studying conjunction events using multi-satellite and ground-based data.
