Do You Like UDON?

Eta Carina image by Suzaku Eta Carina energy spectrum by Suzaku
X-ray color image of Eta-Carina by Suzaku (left) and its energy spectrum (right) displayed by UDON. You can see many emission lines from highly ionized heavy elements. The conspicuous line at around 6.7 keV is from the He-like iron ion (where all but only two electrons are stripped).

UDON (Universe via DARTS ON-line) is the system developed to browse and quickly analyze the space science data archived at DARTS. In future, we hope that UDON be capable of handling as many as satellite data, but currently you can extract X-ray images, spectra, and light curves taken by the Suzaku satellite. For instance, you can analyze the Suzaku data of Eta-Carina, a mysterious star which is no less than 100 times heavier than Sun. When the image is displayed, select Eta-Carina which appears near the center of the image, and just click the "Submit" button to extract its light curve and energy spectrum. If you get used to UDON, please try to browse other X-ray images, energy spectra, and light curves of the Suzaku public data.

Currently, UDON is being developed with a partner company in the framework of JAXA's Open-Lab, which is aimed to promote space-related small businesses. In this Open-lab project, we are planning to utilize the DARTS data not only for public outreach and education, but also for business and entertainment.
