Suzaku XIS light curve of J164449.3+573451
X-ray light curve of J164449.3+573451 with Suzaku

A new mystery, J164449.3+573451

Our universe is full of unknowns. What is the most mysterious one ? Black hole, dark matter, dark energy, or supernova ? In 2011-03-28, a new mysterious source has been discovered by NASA's Swift. This source, now cataloged as J164449.3+573451, was first identified as a gamma rays burst (GRB 110328A). However, along with the first burst, this source continued to brighten and showed time variability. These features have been never seen in other GRBs. Later, NASA's observatories revealed that this is located at the center of a galaxy at z=0.35. This means that the massive black hole at the center of that galaxy may be behind the mystery. Large and small telescopes in the world have looked into this location. (See also here). Our Suzaku observatory also changed the plan and performed a ToO observation on this position in 2011-04-06. The figure shows an X-ray light curve of the Suzaku observation. The source was bright then and showed time variability. This plot was created by DARTS/UDON. Please check also JAXA/MAXI's monitoring data. Then, please tell us your guess on the origin of the source. The DARTS/Suzaku data are waiting for you to be checked. Let's hope to hear many new results and some models for the origin soon.
